Waerebo traditional village in Manggaraian hinterland is truly the living heritage of Flores. To reach Waerebo you have to drive 8 hours from Labuan Bajo and then continue on foot for 3–4 hours. People of Waerebo live in the iconic cone-shaped houses. These houses are truly a living heritage, although some villagers also live outside of the house (called Mbaru Niang in local languange) complex. Waerebo is one of the producers of coffee in Flores. The fragrant aroma of Waerebo coffee will welcome you at every houses. Coffee farming is the main livelihood at Waerebo village, located at 1,100 meters above sea level. Types include arabica, robusta, colombia, and natural luwak coffee. Don’t miss the chance to admire the landscape when sunlight slowly disperse through thick morning mist. Romantic and beautiful!
Waerebo’s iconic communal houses are unique and fascinating elements of Manggarain culture. The house is called Mbaru Niang, which represents protection and unity; as well as illustrates harmony and justice among the families. The ancestors inherited 7 houses, which have been fully reconstructed in 2008. in 2012 Waerebo community received UNESCO Asia Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation.

Main Activity : Trekking to the coffee plantations and participate in traditional coffee processing Start by trekking in coffee plantation and observe the traditional Manggaraian land subdivision system of Lingko. Local guides will explain the different types of coffee, cultivation, and post-harvest processing. If you come during harvesting time, you can be involved in harvesting activities such as peeling coffee beans. Then help processing the coffee beans into coffee powder which comes in order: frying, grinding coffee beans by wooden mortar and pestle (prepare your power). Finally, help to package coffee bags while your coffee is being brewed. End the tour by sipping your cup of coffee together with local communities. Trust me - after the long journey, you earn it.
